What are mobile social tariffs?

Social tariffs are cheaper broadband and mobile packages offered to households receiving qualifying benefits. While broadband social tariffs are well established — typically £10–£25 a month for fibre — mobile-only social tariffs are newer and less widely advertised. Examples include low-cost plans from providers such as VOXI, Smarty and Vodafone, with prices often around £10–£15 for a modest data allowance.

Eligibility rules vary by provider but commonly include Universal Credit, Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit), Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, and sometimes Personal Independence Payment or Carer's Allowance. Most providers verify eligibility through DWP records with your permission, or by asking for a recent benefit award letter.

Mobile social tariffs are separate from the social tariff you might have for home broadband — you can hold both. They suit people who rely on mobile data rather than fixed-line broadband, or who need a cheap second line.
