Are heat pumps worth it in the UK?

In short: Worth considering if your home is well insulated and you can access grants — running costs can beat old gas boilers when efficiency (COP 3+) is achieved. Upfront install of £8,000–£15,000 means long payback; poor insulation makes gas cheaper to run.
