How it works

  1. Select your plan and enter your SLC balance and gross salary.
  2. We calculate 9% of income above your plan threshold (or 6% for postgraduate loans).
  3. Interest is applied illustratively to show whether you are likely to repay in full or have the balance written off.

Common questions

Which plan am I on?
Check your payslip, HMRC Personal Tax Account or Student Loans Company account. Plan 2 covers most 2012–2023 English starters; Plan 5 covers 2023+ starters.
Does this affect my credit score?
No. Student loans do not appear on credit files, though mortgage lenders may ask about monthly repayments.
Should I overpay based on this?
Usually only if you are a high earner likely to clear the loan before write-off. For most graduates, voluntary overpayments give no benefit.
