Common questions

When should I start this checklist?
Ages 45–60 is ideal — early enough to fix NI gaps and late enough to see realistic retirement numbers.
Do I need a financial adviser?
Not for basics. Regulated advice is legally required for defined benefit transfers over £30,000 and for complex estate planning.
Is drawdown always better than an annuity?
No. Annuities provide certainty; drawdown provides flexibility. Many people combine both at retirement.
