Who do I notify after a UK name change?
Where a link is marked * or labelled Ad, it is a partner advertisement: we receive commission at no extra cost to you. Links without a * or Ad label earn us nothing. How we make money.
In short: Driving licence first (free in Great Britain), then passport, bank, HMRC, employer, NHS and GP, then insurers, pensions, utilities and the council. Tell each benefit separately. A deed poll does not rewrite a will.

You need a signed deed poll or a marriage certificate that already shows the new surname before anyone will update records. HMPO wants the original wet-ink deed plus one name-in-use document. Instant Deed Poll is a document service, not HM Government. Checklist: [who to notify](instantdeedpoll.co.uk/who-to-notify*).
You can be fined up to £1,000 for not telling DVLA about a name or address change. Universal Credit does not update PIP, Child Benefit or Housing Benefit for you.
Full order: who to notify after a name change. Licence: change name on driving licence.
