What is new-for-old home insurance cover?

In short: Contents policies that replace damaged or stolen items with new equivalents of similar quality, without deducting wear and tear. Indemnity policies pay less for older items.

New-for-old is standard on many policies but check the wording — some cap payouts on clothes or linen.

Buildings cover is usually repair or rebuild, not new-for-old in the same sense.
