## In short

A regular saver is a savings account that pays a high interest rate if you deposit a fixed amount each month — typically £25 to £300 — for 12 months. They are often linked to a current account with the same bank and usually restrict withdrawals.

Regular saver accounts reward consistent saving with above-average rates. You commit to monthly deposits within set limits for a fixed term, usually one year. The attractive headline rate applies only to money held in the account — because balances build gradually, the effective return on your total savings over the year is lower than the advertised rate.

Many regular savers are available only to existing current account customers — for example, holders of a main bank current account. Opening the current account to access the regular saver can still be worthwhile if the combined package beats standalone easy-access rates, but check eligibility and any account fees first.

Withdrawals are often restricted or trigger loss of the bonus rate. At the end of the term, balances usually roll into a lower-paying easy-access account unless you move the money — set a diary reminder to switch when the year ends.

Regular savers compete with Cash ISAs and standard savings for your £20,000 ISA allowance (2026/27). If you are a basic-rate taxpayer within the £1,000 Personal Savings Allowance, a high-paying regular saver outside an ISA may be fine; higher-rate taxpayers may prefer ISA sheltering once non-ISA interest approaches £500.
