# What is New Style Jobseeker’s Allowance?

## In short

New Style JSA is a National Insurance contribution-based payment if you are unemployed or working under 16 hours and looking for work. In 2026/27 it is £75.65 a week under 25 and £95.55 at 25 or over, usually for up to 182 days.

Income-based JSA is closed to new claims. Housing and extra needs go through Universal Credit. You can get New Style JSA and UC together; JSA reduces UC as unearned income. You must be available for work and follow a Claimant Commitment.
