## In short

Motability lets you exchange a qualifying mobility award for a leased car, wheelchair accessible vehicle, scooter or powered wheelchair. You usually need enhanced PIP mobility, higher-rate DLA or Child Disability Payment mobility, or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement.

The weekly mobility money is paid to Motability instead of you. Daily living PIP is not used. Many leases include insurance and servicing; some vehicles need an advance payment. Apply through Motability with your award letter — it is not automatic when PIP is granted.

You still need a Blue Badge separately if you want parking concessions, and you still must tell DVLA about notifiable medical conditions if you drive. Guide: [Motability explained](/benefits-tax/motability-explained/). Official scheme: https://www.motability.co.uk
