## In short

There is no autism-only DWP benefit. Most families claim [DLA for children](https://www.gov.uk/disability-living-allowance-children) (or Child Disability Payment in Scotland) based on extra care or mobility needs. That award can unlock Carer's Allowance, extra Universal Credit, higher Tax-Free Childcare, Blue Badge and Motability.

A child with autism may qualify for Disability Living Allowance if they live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and need much more looking-after than other children their age, or have difficulty getting about. Scotland uses Child Disability Payment at the same 2026/27 cash rates (care £30.30 / £76.70 / £114.60; mobility £30.30 / £80). You do not need a diagnosis, though reports help. If the child gets the middle or highest care rate, a parent who cares 35+ hours and earns £204 a week or less after deductions can claim Carer's Allowance (£86.45 a week in 2026/27). Universal Credit can add a disabled child amount (£164.79 or £514.71 a month) and a carer amount. Tax-Free Childcare rises to a £4,000 yearly top-up cap for a disabled child. Higher-rate mobility can mean a Blue Badge, Motability and vehicle tax exemption.
